Donor Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026
1. Our Commitment to Donors
The Center for Psychotherapy Safety, Inc. (“the Center,” “we,” “our”) values the trust that donors place in us. Your generous support makes our mission possible, and we are committed to protecting your personal and financial information with the highest standards of care and transparency. This Donor Privacy Policy supplements our general Privacy Policy and applies specifically to information collected in connection with charitable contributions.
2. Information We Collect from Donors
When you make a donation to the Center, we may collect the following information:
- Contact information: Name, email address, mailing address, and phone number
- Financial transaction records: Donation amount, date, and payment method type (e.g., credit card, check, electronic transfer)
- Donation history: Records of past contributions for acknowledgment and reporting purposes
- Communication preferences: How you prefer to be contacted and what communications you wish to receive
We do not directly collect or store sensitive financial data such as full credit card numbers, bank account numbers, or security codes. All payment processing is handled by our third-party payment processor, which maintains its own security and privacy standards.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use donor information for the following purposes:
- Processing donations: Completing your contribution and confirming receipt
- Sending receipts and acknowledgments: Providing written acknowledgment for your tax records
- Internal record-keeping: Maintaining accurate financial records as required for nonprofit organizations
- Legal compliance: Fulfilling IRS reporting requirements and state charitable solicitation regulations
- Donor communications: Sharing updates about how your contribution supports our mission, consistent with your communication preferences
4. What We Will Never Do
Our Pledge to Donors
- •We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or fundraising purposes.
- •We will never publicly disclose your donation amount without your explicit written consent.
- •We will never condition access to Center resources, educational materials, or services on whether or how much a person has donated.
- •We will never use donor information in ways inconsistent with the purposes described in this policy.
5. Anonymous Donations
We respect your right to give anonymously. You may make a donation without providing your name or contact information, and we will honor that choice in all public-facing communications and records.
Please note that donors generally need written acknowledgment from the receiving organization to substantiate a charitable deduction for contributions of $250 or more. As a result, CPS may need to retain sufficient contact and transaction information to provide this acknowledgment upon request. If you donate anonymously, you may contact us at a later date to request a receipt, though we may require verification of the original transaction.
If you initially donate with identifying information and later wish to be treated as an anonymous donor, you may contact us to update your preferences at any time.
6. Donor Recognition
The Center will only publicly recognize donors — including in annual reports, on our website, or in promotional materials — with the donor's explicit written consent. This includes:
- Use of the donor's name in donor listings or acknowledgment sections
- Public statements about the donation or the donor's relationship with the Center
- Any form of public attribution of the gift
You may withdraw your consent for public recognition at any time by contacting us, and we will update our materials within a reasonable timeframe.
7. Data Security
We implement robust safeguards to protect your information:
- PCI-DSS compliant payment processor: All online payment transactions are processed through a third-party provider that meets Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards
- Access controls: Donor information is accessible only to authorized personnel who need it to perform their duties
- Secure storage: Electronic donor records are maintained in secure, encrypted systems with appropriate backup procedures
- Regular review: We periodically review our data security practices and update them as needed to reflect current best practices
8. Your Rights
As a donor, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correct: Request corrections to any inaccurate or incomplete information
- Delete: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal record-keeping requirements
- Opt out: Unsubscribe from donor communications at any time while remaining on record as a donor
- Change anonymity preferences: Update whether your donations are treated as anonymous at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@psychotherapysafety.org. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Donor Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Material changes will be communicated through a notice on our website and, where feasible, through direct communication to donors on file. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was most recently revised.
