CE POLICIES
Accessibility & Accommodations
Last updated: February 2026
Introduction
The Center for Psychotherapy Safety is committed to making our continuing education offerings accessible to all learners. We aim to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards for all online course content, and we provide reasonable accommodations for learners with disabilities at no additional cost.
Accessibility is not an afterthought — it is integrated into how we design, develop, and deliver our educational programs. We believe that removing barriers to learning strengthens the quality of education for everyone.
Online Course Accessibility Standards
All online CE courses offered by the Center are designed to meet the following accessibility standards:
- All video content includes accurate closed captions synchronized with the audio
- Transcripts are provided for all audio and video materials in downloadable format
- Course navigation is fully operable via keyboard without requiring a mouse
- All images, charts, and diagrams include descriptive alt text or text equivalents
- Color is never used as the sole means of conveying information or distinguishing elements
- Text content maintains a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against its background
- Course materials are compatible with commonly used screen readers
- Interactive elements (quizzes, forms, navigation) are labeled and accessible to assistive technologies
- Content is responsive and readable on a variety of screen sizes and devices
- Timed assessments include options for extended time upon request
- Course slides and downloadable documents are provided in accessible formats (e.g., tagged PDF, HTML)
- Multimedia content avoids flashing elements that could trigger photosensitive conditions
Requesting Accommodations
If you need an accommodation that is not already provided by our standard accessibility features, we encourage you to reach out as early as possible so we can ensure everything is in place before your course begins.
- 1
Contact Us
Email ce-accessibility@psychotherapysafety.org with your accommodation request. Please describe the accommodation you need and, if applicable, the specific course or event you plan to attend. You do not need to disclose your diagnosis or disability.
- 2
Response (Within 3 Business Days)
A member of our team will respond within 3 business days to confirm receipt, discuss your needs, and outline the accommodations we can provide. If we need additional information to fulfill your request, we will let you know.
- 3
Accommodation Provided Before Course Begins
All confirmed accommodations will be in place before the course or event begins. We will provide you with specific details about how the accommodation will be delivered and a point of contact for any issues during the course.
Examples of accommodations we can provide include (but are not limited to): extended time on assessments, alternative format materials (large print, Braille-ready files), sign language interpretation for live events, and modified participation requirements.
In-Person Events
When the Center hosts in-person continuing education events, we are committed to ensuring physical and programmatic accessibility:
- ADA-compliant venues: All in-person events are held at venues that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, including wheelchair-accessible entrances, seating, and restrooms
- Accessible materials: Printed handouts and presentation materials are available in alternative formats (large print, digital copies) upon request
- Assistive listening: Assistive listening devices are available at in-person events upon advance request; sign language interpreters can be arranged with sufficient notice
- Service animals: Service animals are welcome at all CPS in-person events in accordance with ADA guidelines
To request accommodations for an in-person event, please contact us at least 14 days before the event to allow adequate preparation time. We will make every effort to accommodate requests received after this deadline.
Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time achievement. We continuously work to improve our offerings through the following practices:
- Annual evaluation: We conduct an annual review of all CE course content and delivery platforms to identify and address accessibility gaps
- Feedback welcome: We actively invite feedback on accessibility from all learners and use that feedback to guide improvements
- Staff training: Course developers and instructors receive training on accessibility best practices and inclusive design
- Technology updates: We monitor our learning management platform for accessibility updates and implement them promptly
If you encounter an accessibility barrier in any CPS course or event, please let us know at ce-accessibility@psychotherapysafety.org. Your feedback helps us improve the learning experience for everyone.
